Andrew Brookes Outfit – Edinburgh Festival 2017 Opening
Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival is celebrating its phenomenal 70th year, and while this is a very exciting anniversary for the event, it was also an exciting opportunity for us. Andrew created a bespoke outfit for a client, who was involved in marking the start of the annual festival.
We often create bespoke clothing for special occasions and we were delighted to work with our client to create an outfit for such an important event, with thousands visiting Edinburgh to enjoy the celebrations.
The church service and procession at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, which took place on Sunday 6th August, is a Festival tradition. We were delighted to be commissioned to create a custom-made Captain’s outfit for our client, who was involved in this procession and service alongside the Provost, councillors, diplomats and members of other corporations.
Our client is a marine Captain, working on the River Forth and a Trustee of the Incorporation of the Trinity House of Leith, formed in 1380. The Incorporation, the oldest in Edinburgh, is an important part of the city’s history and, initially formed to look after widows and children of lost or injured seafarers, is now a charitable organisation. With such an important marine background, this custom outfit from Andrew Brookes had to be fit for a Captain. The black barathea captain’s outfit was completed with gold braid, creating a befitting look for this important occasion.
Tailoring is a very traditional business and, while the festival offers different entertainment every August, we appreciate the event’s celebration of tradition. The church service has taken place every year since 1947, when the Festival was set up to boost morale after the Second World War. It has been an honour to see one of Andrew’s bespoke outfits hold a place at the Festival’s 70th celebrations and we’re looking forward to our next bespoke commission.
