A BESPOKE WEDDING SUIT FOR JAMIE RITCHIE
Andrew Brookes has a long history of creating bespoke, tailor-made wedding suits that reflect the groom’s Scottish heritage. A born and bred Dundonian, rugby player Jamie Ritchie joined other sportsmen such as Greig Laidlaw, Dunghan van der Merwe, Jamie Murray and Scott Meenagh in commissioning a bespoke wedding suit from Andrew Brookes for his big day.
Scottish legend and rugby champion Jamie Ritchie made his professional debut for Edinburgh Rugby in October 2014. He quickly proved himself as a supremely talented flanker and what followed was over 80 appearances for the capital club and a BT Premiership in 2015. He has showcased and represented Scotland in both sports and now style, and his latest collaboration with Andrew Brookes has been a privilege for us.
Jamie married his childhood sweetheart, Millie, after a five-year-long engagement. The pair went for a traditional, elegant wedding and Jamie’s suit embodied the grace and refinement of Millie’s wedding dress. The tones were cool, and the cut was modern to showcase the youth and sophistication of Jamie’s style.
It was important to Jamie that his wedding suit be not only a garment but a part of a historic legacy close to his own that could be worn for years to come. His paramount objective was to own something with versatility, flexibility, heritage, and harmony. That’s where our expertise came into play.
Based on the brief, we designed an outfit for Jamie’s wedding that featured all the details he required and fit his athletic figure perfectly. A custom hybrid jacket and tartan trousers cut on the waist to offer flexibility to wear with a shirt and cardigan even after the big day.
Of the finer details, Andrew said “Jamie’s shirt has a lovely line against his shoulders and a cut-back collar. The custom waistcoat was a luxurious off-white flannel, which looks great on a groom and matches Millie’s wedding dress. The shoes were black single monk dress shoes from Cheaney, with the buckle giving a real character feel.”
The key element of the brief was to design a versatile wedding outfit that Jamie could use and wear afterwards and we certainly delivered on his expectations.
