“Putting on a suit is putting on a suit of armour” – Guy Ritchie

31 August 2018

Last week, podcaster Joe Rogan welcomed Guy Ritchie onto his show. While they discussed various topics, with a considerable focus on the upcoming release of Ritchie’s latest film, “King Arthur”, they also discussed what Ritchie refers to as ‘the death of the suit’.

Ritchie is of the belief that this stemmed from the “I’m going to work and I gotta wear a suit” attitude. Of course, it’s understandable why smart dress is often associated with work but Ritchie stresses that the person putting on the suit, has got to want to put it on and believes that for many years, many of us were “brainwashed to not dress like gentlemen”.

While suits serve the purpose of business wear, each and every day, the way we dress has become more and more prominent in today’s society. Ritchie suggests that we were robbed of wearing suits for many years, but emphasises the magic of large brands, such as Ralph Lauren, who recreated and resold the concept.

Not only does he stress the importance of wearing a fine suit but also of wearing a unique suit.

Of course, this is a belief we share with Ritchie – creating something unique for our customers is extremely important to us. We will design the right garment for you using your own unique pattern, matching the best fabrics and design features to ensure the very best combination of fit, versatility and design.

Further to this, Ritchie’s belief is that there is much more to owning a suit than just purchasing it.

We live in a world where customisation is much desired, but when it comes to tailoring, we’ve been doing it for years. Is there really anything more personalised than a suit created and tailored especially for you?

Fittingly, Ritchie refers to his suits as suits of armour, which empower him and make him feel like he is really ‘owning the suit’.

However, this comparison ends when discussing comfort, as Ritchie points out that a suit should be as comfortable as a pair of pyjamas – especially for the man who chooses to dress meticulously each and every day.

When challenged by Rogan, who says he doesn’t wear a suit, as he wants to be comfortable, Ritchie highlights that his suits are perfectly comfortable because someone who knows what they are doing made them.

Not only is the aesthetic aspect of the completed suit important but also the overall look and feel. It is really important to us that our customers are comfortable and feel confident wearing the end product! Our bespoke tailoring service includes several appointments and at least two fittings to ensure your garment fits you perfectly.
